About SportMED+

SportMED+ is the region’s only rehabilitation clinic with both sport medicine physicians and physiotherapists providing assessment and treatment to help you return to your sport or activity. Whether you are an elite athlete, weekend warrior, or an active Baby Boomer our team has the expertise to help you return to your everyday active life as soon as possible.

Who are we?

SportMED+ is a multidisciplinary team including physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, kinesiologist, speech language pathologists, registered massage therapists, and rehabilitation assistants. Our sport medicine physicians are certified with the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine and are able to arrange for diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT, Ultrasound) if required. Operated by Martel & Mitchell Physiotherapy out of the North Bay Regional Health Centre at 50 College Drive.

Dr. Bryan Lemenchick MD, CCFP (SEM), Dip. Sport Med.

Sport Medicine Physician

Dr. Lemenchick is a Primary Care Sport Medicine Physician who completed his Fellowship in
Sport and Exercise Medicine at Western University in London, ON in 2014. Prior to moving to
North Bay, he worked at the Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic at Western University.
He has been a team physician for varsity teams at Western University and with the Canadian Soccer Association. He has provided medical coverage at events such as the CHL Memorial Cup, NHL Rookie Tournaments in London, ON, and the Parapan Am Games in Toronto, ON. He also practices emergency and family medicine.

Dr. Taylor Lougheed, MD, CCFP(EM)(SEM), Dip Sport Med.

Sport Medicine Physician

Dr. Lougheed is a family physician additionally certified in both emergency medicine and sport medicine. Prior to joining the team at SportMed+ he lived and worked in Ottawa where he helped provide event coverage for various sporting events, including the Canadian Track & Field Championships, Skate Canada National Championships, Red Bull Crashed Ice Championships, and Invictus Games.

Doug Linklater HBPE, BEd, BScPT, Sport Med

Registered Physiotherapist

Doug graduated from the University of Western Ontario and completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic. He has more than 14 years of experience specializing in sports injuries and orthopedic physiotherapy.

Doug worked as the physical therapist for the Canadian Alpine Ski Team for more than 5 years, attending the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy 2006 and Sochi,
Russia 2014.

Doug has more than 30 years
of coaching experience, which gives him a platform to help athletes at both high performance and recreational levels in
our community.

Tarra Trudel PT, BKin, MScPT

Registered Physiotherapist

Tarra joined the SportMED+ physiotherapy team in January 2020 with previous work experience at Martel & Mitchell Physiotherapy clinic locations in Powassan, Mattawa, and on Cassells Street in North Bay. She also has clinical experience in various rehabilitation roles within the hospital, including neurological rehabilitation.

Tarra is graduated with a Bachelor of Kinesiology from Acadia University with a major in Athletic Therapy. She then went on to complete her Masters in Physiotherapy at McMaster University in 2009.  She is the proud mother of an infant son and stays active playing recreational hockey and enjoying the outdoors.

Niko Gregorin OT Reg. (Ont.)

Registered Occupational Therapist

Niko is a graduate of Ljubljana University in Slovenia – Europe and has been practising Occupational Therapy for 17 years in different parts of the world and Canada. He has taken postgraduate courses in neuro rehabilitation, upper extremity rehabilitation, lymphedema management, arthritis management, wheelchair prescription, home modification and many others to increase skills and knowledge. He has special interest in neuro and hand rehabilitation. He is involved in local sporting community through coaching ringette.

Jordan Berger

Rehabilitation Assistant

Jordan Berger grew up in the North Bay area, playing sports and enjoying the outdoors. He has since graduated with a degree in Health and Physical Education and a diploma from Sault College for a Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Assistant. He spent 7 year in the western provinces working in reforestation and construction before returning to North Bay where he has worked in the North Bay Regional Health Centre for the past 11 years. Jordan spends his free time with his young family and pursuing outdoor activities and recreational sports.

Danalie Meyer

Registered Kinesiologist

Danalie graduated from Graceland University in Iowa and has been a working as a Kinesiologist for 9 years. Danalie spends most of her time completing Post Offer of Employment Assessments and Functional Capacity Evaluations. She was born and raised in North Bay where she participated in numerous competitive sports. She now keeps busy watching her two boys compete in their various sports.

Carrie Linklater

Speech Language Pathologist

Carrie graduated with her Master’s of Speech and Language Pathology in 2008 from Queensland University in Brisbane, Australia. Following graduation, she returned to her home town, North Bay, and started her career at the North Bay Regional Health Centre in 2009.Carrie has experience in an acute medical setting as well as in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation. A Speech-Language Pathologist is skilled in treating swallowing, cognitive-communication, language, motor speech, and voice disorders. Carrie has a special interest in instrumental dysphagia assment; as well as treating cognitive-communication and language disorders related to neurodegenerative disorders and brain injury.

Do I need a referral to make an appointment?

You do not need a referral to schedule an appointment with our physiotherapists, occupational therapist, or speech language pathologist however, a referral from a physician or nurse practitioner is required to schedule an appointment with Doctors Lemenchick or Lougheed.
